Scotch Paint of Gardena CA is the manufacturer and "innovator" of water based sealers used as the first step in the repair of torn drywall. Draw-Tite is a clear, water-based surface conditioner/primer that leaves a tightly sealed surface for the successful application of a skim coat prior to painting or wallpapering. Additionally Draw-Tite replaces oil-based paints and shellac products used to seal walls prior to wallpapering. Draw-Tite seals in one coat, is quick-drying, and odorless.
The wallpaper removal process often results in gouged or torn drywall. Delamination of the outer paper facing layer of the drywall may occur. This happens when there is NO sealer, primer, or paint on the outer face of thedrywall and/or when the drywall was sealed with poor quality materials. Drywall consists of the outer facing paper [side exposed], gypsum, and back paper [side hidden]. The outer facing paper is composed of many micro-layers of paper (which are too thin for the naked eye to see) laminated together. Drywall is usually finished with a smooth layer of drywall compound. Drywall may also be covered with a "textured" finish. This texture finish is often a mixture of drywall compound [mixed with adhesive & sometimes paint] that is sprayed onto the drywall surface.

This textured finish is often described as "orange peel" or "knock-down" texture. It is very common that this texture was applied at new construction and considered the final finish. If wallpaper was applied over this type of textured finish and the texture was not sealed prior to wallpaper being installed, the removal process may damage the texture. The damage occurs because the wallpaper adhesive "cured" over time and absorbed into the porous texture without the benefit of the wallpaper adhesive attaching to a quality primer or sealer. Once moistened with removal solutions, bubbles or blisters can occur. Often the texture may scrape away easily.
Drywall should always be sealed with a wallpaper primer prior to the installation of wallpaper.
If it is necessary to fix the blisters, gouged drywall, torn or delaminated drywall; a penetrating sealer should be applied as the immediate next step towards smooth walls. Draw-Tite is odorless, water based and the ideal product for this application. Draw-Tite will soak through the face of the drywall and penetrate to the gypsum. Once the Draw-Tite dries (1-2 hours) the walls are ready to receive joint compound, spackle, and/or paint.
Typical coverage is 400-600 square feet per gallon. Draw-Tite is a one coat product.
Draw-Tite is also ideal for sealing builder's porous flat paint.
